New Delhi [India]July 21 (ANI): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined folk artists on Thursday as they performed a tribal dance to celebrate the presidential candidate’s advance National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Draupadi Murmu versus Yashwant Sinha of the opposition after the end of the second round of counting.
Odisha is Pradhan’s home state. Folk artists and the tribal community of Odisha living in Delhi gathered at Pradhan’s residence on Thursday to celebrate Murmu’s anticipated victory. They performed traditional dances and played dholak.
Speaking to ANI, the Union minister said, “The nation is going to make history. The 15th President will be officially announced shortly. No one has the slightest doubt in mind. Daughter of a tribal family from a very ordinary house in Odisha, Draupadi Murmu will be elected president.
“There is immense joy among the underprivileged part of society, the tribes, women and East India that for the first time the true meaning of democracy is coming to the fore. A leader from such background will rise to the highest office in the nation. This is a success story for democracy,” Pradhan added.
Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Rabi Narayan Naik said Murmu’s victory will give recognition to the tribal community.
“It is a prestigious and honorable moment for all of us that a person from our community will be the next President of India. Henceforth, everyone will recognize our community through Draupadi Murmu. The tribal community will walk today from the residence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to Draupadi Murmu’s residence to congratulate her,” Naik told ANI.
NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is leading against opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha after the end of the second round of vote counting which started at 11am on Thursday.
Murmu leads the contest with opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha by a margin of 812 votes.
The results will decide who will succeed Ram Nath Kovind as the country’s 15th president.
Draupadi Murmu is considered to have a clear advantage in the competition, with several political parties giving their support to the NDA candidate. (ANI)
